Health Practitioner Students needed

NSW Health is hiring university students from specific disciplines to train as Vaccination Workers helping to deliver COVID-19 vaccinations across NSW.

What’s involved?

Vaccination Workers rotate through their assigned NSW Health vaccination hub and perform various roles, including administering the vaccine, providing post-vaccination advice and working in the observation area post-vaccination. You will work under the direct (line of sight) supervision of a clinician at all times.

Am I eligible?

As of 28 June 2021, the Chief Medical Officer has authorised specified student cohorts to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. Other conditions and further information about the specified student cohorts are included in the attached Authority. Eligible student cohorts include:

• Dentistry, Medicine, Paramedicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Physiotherapy,

or Occupational Therapy students who are:

o entered on the student register in an approved program of study under the Health Practitioner

Regulation National Law; AND

o in the final year of fulltime study (or part-time equivalent), or penultimate year of full time-study

(or part-time equivalent) where they have undertaken at least one clinical placement of the

relevant qualification

• Nursing or midwifery students who :

o Are currently enrolled in a recognised course leading to registration as a nurse (division 1) or

midwife, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia; AND

o have completed the first semester of their second year of full-time study (or part time equivalent)

at a minimum; AND

o have undertaken at least one clinical placement in a hospital, OR

• Speech pathology students enrolled in a course accredited by Speech Pathology Australia who:

o are in their final year of fulltime study (or part-time equivalent); AND

o have undertaken at least clinical placement in a hospital; OR

• Nutrition and dietetics students enrolled in a course accredited by Dietitians Australia who:

o are in their final year of fulltime study (or part-time equivalent); AND

o have undertaken at least clinical placement in a hospital.

Successful applicants will be required to complete relevant NSW Health and Commonwealth training as well as the Sydney University COVID-19 Vaccination Administration Training. This training will be paid for by NSW Health and consists of an online and practical component. You will need to be assessed as competent before you are able to vaccinate. You must also hold current competency in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (Basic Life Support).
