Allied health student employment in allied health assistant and allied health student cadet positions: Various locations, casual and temporary contracts

Your opportunity

Under supervision, allied health students can and do make important contributions to client care. Casual and/or temporary employment of allied health students has been identified as a critical component to support allied health workforce strategies in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-CD) pandemic.

A range of roles are likely to become available over the coming weeks across Queensland Health facilities. For allied health students, this will include working as either an allied health assistant or as a health practitioner level C (allied health student cadet). These roles will provide support to the allied health workforce and contribute to the delivery of effective, efficient and person-centered care.

This expression of interest will be ongoing as part of Queensland Health’s response to COVID-CD.


Eligibility

These roles are suitable for students undertaking formal pre-entry qualifications from a recognised

tertiary institution in the following allied health professions:

• Audiology • Occupational Therapy • Prosthetics & Orthotics • Clinical Measurement Sciences • Optometry • Psychology

• Dietetics & Nutrition • Orthoptics • Rehabilitation Engineering • Exercise Physiology • Pharmacy • Social Work

• Medical Radiation Professions • Physiotherapy • Sonography • Music Therapy • Podiatry • Speech Pathology


How to apply

In order to assess your suitability for available roles, please provide the following information:

1. A cover letter (maximum one page) that includes the following information:

a) Your program of study and university
(e.g. Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours), James Cook University)

b) Your year of study
(e.g. 3rd year Bachelor or 2nd year Graduate Entry Master Degree)

c) Your preferred Hospital and Health Service/facility/work location
(can include multiple health services and facilities)

d) Details of all successfully completed student placements within Queensland Health facilities,

including the duration of the placement, the clinical practice area, location and dates.
(e.g. 4 week orthopaedic placement, Princess Alexandria Hospital, 10 February – ` 6 March )

e) Any experience using the integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR)

f). A short statement on how your experience, abilities, knowledge and qualities enable you to contribute to the allied health assistant and/or allied health student cadet roles within Queensland Health.

2. Your current resume, including [ referees

Please note that approval must be sought prior to nominating a person as a referee. Referees should have a thorough knowledge of your work performance and conduct. It is preferable to include at least one past clinical placement supervisor. By providing the names and contact details of your referee/s, you consent for these people to be contacted by Hospital and Health Service hiring managers.

5. If you have completed the following employment screening for your clinical placements, please

include the certificates within your application:

a) Aged care criminal history check (National Police Certificate) (if you have completed a

placement in aged care services)

b) Corrective services criminal history check (if you have completed a placement in a Queensland

Corrective Services facility)

c) Working with children check (Blue Card) (if you have completed a placement where services were

provided to children).

When will I know if there is interest in my experience?

You will receive an email to acknowledge receipt of your expression of interest. Your details will then be forwarded to your nominated Hospital and Health Service/s. As an expression of interest process, the information that you provide will assist our hiring managers in identifying you as potentially suitable for further discussions regarding employment opportunities as part of the COVID-CD response. You may be contacted to undertake a recruitment and selection process to further determine suitability for employment for specific positions. You will be contacted directly by Hospital and Health Service/s regarding any opportunities.

Additional Information

Submission of your application as part of the expression of interest process does not guarantee that you will be offered employment by Queensland Health.
